The 2012 Master’s Tournament was this weekend, and it was a pretty exciting finish, with Bubba Watson winning his first major with a stunning approach shot on the second hole of a sudden death playoff against South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen.
The dashboard below shows how golfers fared on each of Augusta National’s 18 holes over the course of the tournament, and allows you to select each of the two top finishers (and Tiger, of course) to view just their results:
In general, it’s clear that players suffer on the par 3’s and 4’s and make up for it on the par 5’s.
Take a look at Bubba Watson’s average score on the final 6 holes of the course compared to Tiger’s for an idea why Tiger didn’t win his 5th green jacket.
Notice anything else?

This is great! Love the mini lollipop chart on the right hand side.
Thanks a lot Dustin! Props to Andy Cotgreave for the lollipop chart feature.
Great work Ben! I love the map and the circles on each of the holes!
Great post on the Masters. Your site is looking better all the time.. are you planning to do anything for the NBA playoffs? btw… Bubba Watson’s second shot on the 2nd. hole of OT… it was a left-to-right bender (a forced hook or draw for him since he’s left-handed). One of the greatest shots I have ever seen in the Masters. Right up there with Larry Mize 60 yard chip into the hole (I think it was 1998), and that was also on the 2nd hole of OT, knocking Greg Norman out of contention.
this is a great viz would really love to see how those points were plotted on the map. Postfor us if possible or email. Thanks Ben for the post
