Two weeks ago, Tom Brady threw for zero touchdowns and had a quarterback rating of a lowly 57.5 against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game. And the Patriots won. That led me to wonder – how often do the Patriots win when Brady plays that poorly? The interactive dashboard below allows you to ask that and similar questions for Brady’s performance and the Patriot’s results:
Post-game Update: A QB rating for Brady of 91.1 is usually enough to get it done. Not today:
Anything strike you as interesting? I was surprised by the fact that the Patriots have won 63.3% of games in which Brady didn’t even throw a single touchdown.

The NFL schedule was just announced. A sportswriter (can’t remember his name) predicts with over 80% accuracy which team will win each game abased on the quarterback for each team. He looks for the top-rated quarterbacks (by # TDs, #Picks, Overall QB rating (avg)). Those are Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Eli Manning, Drew Brees, Matthew Stafford, Joe Flacco, Alex Smith (I may have missed one or two.. the San Diego QB… what’s his name). Then look at the quarterback on the other team. If he is not one of those names, the team that has the Top-tier QB wins in over 80% of the games. Just giving you the idea… but I thought it would be a great data analysis.
